      Is the class mandatory?

      The class is mandatory for youth who have received a Minor in Possession or Purchase (MIP) allegation and their parent(s)/guardian(s). Failure to register and attend the MIP class may result in a petition being filed with the Juvenile Court.

      When are classes held?

      The class occurs on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Classes usually fill two weeks in advance. We do not maintain a waiting list.

      How long is the class?

      The Minor in Possession class is a one-time, two-hour class held on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. 

      Who is required to attend?

      Youth who have received a Minor in Possession or Purchase (MIP) allegation and their parent(s)/guardian(s).

      Do youth and parents attend the class together?

      Youth and parents attend the first five minutes of class together. After the first five minutes of class, parents will attend separate break-out sessions from youth.

      Is childcare provided?

      No, childcare is not provided during the class. Please make alternate arrangements for any children who are not required to attend the class.

      Are we permitted to bring a guest to the class?

      Guests are not allowed at the class.

      How many people are in the class?

      The class size average is 15 youth and their parent(s)/guardian(s).

      Who teaches the class?

      The youth portion of the class is taught by two Youth Services staff who are knowledgeable and experienced in the types of issues that arise when youth engage in substance use behaviors.

      The parent portion of the class is facilitated by therapists from Center for Family Development Inc., Centro Latino, and Looking Glass Community Services.

      How much does the class cost?

      There is no fee to attend the class.

      Where do I find parking?

      Parking is available on the south side of the building. 

      Can I smoke in the building?

      No, smoking is not permitted in or around the building. Participants are not allowed to leave the building, so do not plan to smoke during breaks.

      Do I need to bring anything?

      Bring a sweater or other layered clothing. You may also wish to bring a beverage and snack. You must stay in the building during breaks, so be sure to bring everything you need with you when you arrive for class. If you leave the building for any reason, you will not be able to return to class.
