The Lane County Clerk’s Office is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the Lane County Property Value Appeals Board for the 2027 term.
Applicants must be residents of Lane County. People with interest and background in real property appraisal, finance, and real estate are encouraged to apply. Applicants cannot be employees of the county or of any taxing district within the county. The number of appointees varies, depending on the projected number of appeals. The number of boards assigned will be based on the number of appeals filed with the county.
What is the Property Value Appeals Board?
Property owners have the ability to appeal the value on which their property tax is based. The Property Value Appeals Board hears petitions for reduction of real market, maximum assessed, specially assessed, and assessed value of property placed on the roll by the county assessor. The Board also hears requests to waive penalties assessed for late filing of real or personal property returns.
What experience is needed: Experience or knowledge of appraisal procedures, assessment practices, real estate, property valuation, law, finance, or a related field is desired. Strong analytical skills, familiarity with Public Meetings Law and Public Records Law are important. The Oregon Department of Revenue provides required training prior to the hearing season.
